Platts changes vintages reflected in Nature-Based Avoidance, Southeast Asia assessments, Aug 1

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, has changed the vintage years reflected in the Platts Nature-Based Avoidance (NBA) Southeast Asia Current Year and Yr01 price assessments, effective Aug. 1.

The changes mean Platts Nature-Based Avoidance, Southeast Asia carbon credit assessments will better reflect the vintages in circulation, given the limited issuances of credits with more recent vintage years.

Previously, the Platts Nature-Based Avoidance Southeast Asia Current Year price assessment reflected the most competitive, most internationally fungible of credits with vintages from 2021-2025. The assessment now reflects credits with a 2020 vintage only, accounting for the absence of vintage supply from 2021 onwards in the Southeast Asia Nature-Based Avoidance segment of the Voluntary Carbon Market.

The Yr01 assessment previously reflected vintages 2023-2026, and now reflects vintages 2020-2021, to align with the vintages typically traded in the spot market.

Platts has also removed the vintage rollover logic that occurs every year on the first working day of July for these assessments, in consideration of the lack of more recent issuances.

As such, the Nature Based Avoidance, Southeast Asia Current Year assessment reflects 2020 vintages until further notice. Platts will continue to monitor the issuance of more recent vintages and notify market participants of any changes to its methodology through subscriber notes as required.
