SUBSCRIBER NOTE: Platts proposes to launch additional pellet assessments

S&P Global Platts proposes to publish from October 17, 2018 an additional weekly spot iron ore pellet price assessment on a CFR Qingdao basis. This assessment would be published on Wednesdays, or the nearest prior working day in case of a public holiday in Singapore. Platts would launch two assessments. One would be published as a fixed price; the other would be as a premium over the base fines value with dmtu adjustment. Platts has observed in recent years that India has become the main source of spot pellet cargoes into China. To reflect this change in market dynamics, Platts is proposing to launch an assessment whose specification mirrors India-origin pellet. As with all Platts delivered assessments, however, the assessment would not be origin specific, reflecting material from all origins, normalizing where necessary to Platts base specification. Platts is encouraging feedback on which specifications to use as the basis of this new pellet assessment. Platts is proposing to publish this value in the daily iron ore assessment table in SBB Steel Markets Daily on page 3 and on page MW1161 of PMA and to database the value, making it available in data products under the category SI.
