As part of its efforts to provide additional transparency in global uranium markets, S&P Global Platts has decided to begin assessing additional pricing locations for U3O8, effective Sept. 1, 2021.
In addition to the existing assessment in Canada, Platts will begin assessing prices at uranium conversion facilities in the US and France, where U3O8 is typically stored, traded and processed into UF6.
Platts published the original proposal on July 2 here: https://www.spglobal.com/platts/en/our-methodology/subscriber-notes/070221-platts-proposes-to-assess-uranium-locational-differentials-for-us-france
The new assessments will take the form of a daily differential, positive or negative, to the Canada price for delivery in the current month (AFUEM01).
The assessments will reflect the values at 1 pm Eastern time in $/lb and would take into account trades, bids, offers, location swaps and indicative values collected up to this cutoff.
The assessments will follow the US holiday calendar, with details to be found in the Platts holiday calendar online: https://www.spglobal.com/platts/en/our-methodology/holiday
The new differential assessments will be published alongside the existing Canada price in the Nuclear Fuel report and the Nuclear Fuel Uranium Pricing Supplement, as well as on fixed pages PEA0308 and PEP0308 of the Platts real-time service.
The methodology for the existing uranium assessments can be found here: https://www.spglobal.com/platts/PlattsContent/_assets/_files/en/our-methodology/methodology-specifications/uraniummethodology.pdf
