Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, will launch three new daily assessments for US post-use low density polyethylene (R-LDPE) bales and recycled pellets on Aug. 1, 2022, to further expand coverage of the growing recycled plastic markets.
The daily spot assessments will take into consideration price information observed up to the close of the assessment process at 4:00 pm Central Standard Time.
The new assessments in cents/lb (USD) will have the following specifications:
Basis: Free on Board, or picked-up, within the US Midwest region.
Standard spot cargo size: The assessment reflects a typical volume size of 35,000-44,000 lbs loaded on a standard 53-foot trailer.
Post-use LDPE Grade A Bales: LDPE film sourced from distribution centers, retailers and manufacturing companies, containing a minimum of 95% clear LDPE and a maximum of 5% non-clear film, label, non-LDPE contamination.
Platts defines this bale specification as Grade A, in line with market practice.
Pricing information received for material that does not conform to the above specification may be normalized to the standard for assessment purposes.

Post-use LDPE Grade B Bales: LDPE film bales sourced from distribution centers, retailers and manufacturing companies, containing a minimum of 80% clear LDPE and a maximum of 20% non-clear film, label, and non-LDPE contamination.
Platts defines this bale specification as Grade B, in line with market practice.
Pricing information received for material that does not conform to the above specification may be normalized.

Recycled LDPE Light Gray Pellets: Light gray colored recycled LDPE pellets derived from post-use waste, with an MFI of 0.5-1 g/10 min tested at 190 deg/2.16 kg.
Pellets are non-odorless and non-food grade. Pricing information received for material that does not conform to the above specification may be normalized to the standard for assessment purposes.
