Singapore (Platts)--18Jul2018/1138 pm EDT/338 GMT S&P Global Platts will replace Karachi with Port Qasim as the discharge port for its Richards Bay, South Africa, to Pakistan 50,000 mt Supramax thermal coal freight assessment, effective August 1, 2018.
In the interim period until August 1, Platts will normalize fixtures heard into Port Qasim to basis Karachi discharge.
With Pakistan's Supreme Court banning the unloading of thermal coal at Karachi port from August, the country's thermal coal importers will have to discharge all their cargoes at Port Qasim.
A notice has been served to the Karachi Port Trust, the administrator of the country's largest maritime gateway, allowing only those vessels whose bills of lading have declared Karachi as the port of discharge to call until the end of July.
The judgment passed by the Supreme Court on June 20 cited environment pollution and health issues for the ruling.
The assessment appears in the Dry Freight Wire and in the Platts database under the code CRBPB00.
