SUBSCRIBER NOTE: Platts proposes to launch daily Soybeans CFR China assessment

S&P Global Platts will launch a new daily spot physical assessment for soybeans CFR China, effective July 31, 2018.

The assessment will reflect the daily traded or tradable value basis CFR North China Ports.

Platts may consider other ports or FOB prices in relevant origins and will use prevailing spot freight rates and origin adjustments to normalize back to the basis locations.

The assessment will reflect shipment on Panamax vessels with a typical 10% operational tolerance, for arrival four months ahead of the date of publication.

The standard specification will reflect Brazil origin soybean specification with oil content of 18.5% and a standard protein level of 34.5%, while other qualities may be considered but would be normalized back to the reference quality.

The assessment period will roll to the next calendar month on the first business day of the following month.

For example on August 31, Platts would assess arrival in December, but from September 1 Platts would assess loading over January.

Platts proposed to publish the assessment as cents/bushel premiums as well as $/mt values using the settlement value of the CBOT soybean futures contract.

The cents/bushel premium as well as the $/mt assessments would reflect a market on close time stamp of 4:30 pm Singapore time.

The CBOT soybean futures contract assessment would reflect a market close time stamp of 9:30 pm Singapore time.

As per Platts methodology, the assessment would be made using transactional information collected daily, including trades, bids and offers.

Platts welcomes all further feedback and questions on the new assessments.
