S&P Global Platts proposes publishing differentials for 45 additional US gasoline and distillate products versus their relevant prevailing futures contracts from September 1, 2020, in order to bring greater transparency to the assessed markets.
Gasoline and distillates in the physical oil market in the US typically trade on a differential basis to the relevant futures contracts. Platts would publish these differentials alongside the outright price assessments Platts already publishes for these markets. No changes are proposed to the existing assessments Platts publishes in these markets.
Platts would publish the differentials versus the same futures contract month that forms the basis of the existing outright price assessments. Rollover dates for the basis month follow pipeline schedules and industry standards, depending on the region.
On the US Gulf Coast, rollover dates would align with Colonial Pipeline's cycle schedule, while in Chicago, rollover dates will align with the Explorer Pipeline's cycle schedule and roll over on the 25th of each month or the following business day. Atlantic Coast and Group 3 rollover dates will be the last trading day of the month.
