Platts launches Pork Loin Ex-works US Midwest assessment July 1

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, has launched a new daily price assessment for pork loin, ex-works US Midwest, effective July 1, 2025.

The US is among the top global producers of pork, with pork loin representing a significant share of traded cuts, both domestically and for export. The US Midwest serves as a crucial production hub, housing the largest concentration of hog farms, and benefits from its proximity to essential rail and port infrastructure.

The new US pork loin assessment enhances Platts protein coverage, which includes the EU Pork Marker and Pork Belly CFR North Asia, while complementing the existing "field-to-fork" coverage of agriculture markets.

Platts launch of a pork loin assessment follows a proposal published here on May 15, 2025, and a decision published here June 3, 2025.

The specifications of the new price assessment are as follows:

  • Basis and location: EXW-Midwest
  • Quality: ¼" trimmed boneless pork loin, vacuum-packed, frozen
  • Quantity: Minimum 40,000 lb
  • Timing: Loading 15-30 days forward from the date of assessment
  • Payment terms: Cash against documents

The EXW US Midwest assessment reflects product from the US Midwest, defined as production facilities located in Iowa, Minnesota, North Carolina, Nebraska, Missouri and Illinois.

The new US pork price assessment is published in dollars per metric ton ($/mt), with a value also published in dollars per lb ($/lb).

The assessment is based on bids, offers, trades and market activity reported to Platts before 1.30 pm Houston time and reflects the prevailing market value at the time of close.

The assessment follows the Platts US publishing calendar.

The US pork loin prices are published under the following symbols:
