Platts begins publishing single close value for Asian steel and scrap assessments

Following market consultation, Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, has begun publishing a single close value for its Asian steel and scrap price assessments and has discontinued associated high and low price points, with effect from July 1, 2022.

The changes, which simplify assessment data points amid growing interest in Platts Asia steel and scrap assessments, were first proposed on March 8 in a subscriber note available here:

Assessment symbols now reflect only the close bate, with the high bate and low bate no longer published. The changes affect the following assessments and list prices:

The assessments appear in Platts Steel Alert, Platts Price Analyzer, Platts Steel Price Report, SBB Daily Briefing, SBB Steel Markets Daily and Platts Market Data categories SQ and ST.
