Platts launches UK power day-ahead Block 5 assessments

Effective June 30, 2021, S&P Global Platts has started assessing UK power day-ahead Block 5 prices to bring further transparency to the country's intra-day power market.

Platts has observed that an increased contribution of renewable energy in the UK power generation mix has a pronounced impact on the intra-day power market, especially during winter months.

UK day-ahead power market trades contracts for base load, peak load or in individual blocks.

Block 5 reflects power supply from 3 pm UK time to 7 pm.

The new price assessment reflects the prevailing value, in GBP/MWh and Eur/MWh, for delivery before the 9:20 am London market close, and is published on a daily basis for working days only.

The rest of the methodology would mirror the parameters for other day-ahead assessments, described on p.2-3 of the European Electricity specifications guide, which can be found here: https://www.spglobal.com/platts/PlattsContent/_assets/_files/en/our-methodology/methodology-specifications/european_power_methodology.pdf

The new price is published on the fixed pages PEP0041, PEP0042 and PEP0043 of the Platts real-time alert and is databased under the following codes: GTB5G00 and GTB5E00.
