SUBSCRIBER NOTE: Platts proposes to discontinue Hong Kong MGO assessment

In line with a decline in liquidity and shift to a lower sulfur standard within Hong Kong for marine gasoil sales, S&P Global Platts proposes to discontinue its Hong Kong Marine Gasoil Delivered bunker assessment, effective October 2, 2017.

The assessment code AATXL00 is published in Platts Bunkerwire and on Platts Global Alert page 2850. It is also published in Bunkerworld where it will also be discontinued effective October 2, 2017.

Platts on June 1, 2017, launched LSMGO assessments at a number of Asian ports including Hong Kong. The assessment for LSMGO in Hong Kong is published on Platts Global Alert page 2850 under the code AAXYQ00.

Since April 1, 2014, sales of Marine Light Diesel within Hong Kong have been restricted to a maximum 0.05% sulfur or 500 ppm.

In addition, Platts will no longer publish bids or offers for MGO material in Hong Kong, but only for MGO that conforms to the Hong Kong MLD restrictions.

In the interim period ahead of discontinuation, Platts will assess MGO in Hong Kong at parity to LSMGO.
