Singapore (Platts)--22Jun2018/231 pm EDT/1831 GMT S&P Global Platts is proposing to launch five medium grade iron ore fines brand assessments from September 3, 2018. This proposal comes on the back of regular and increasing feedback from market participants to provide more granular pricing information on the most liquid brands in the spot market. Brand differentials against the underlying index have become visibly more sensitive and reactive to changing market dynamics in the last year. Platts is proposing to launch assessments for the following brands:
Pilbara Blend Fines(PBF) Brazilian Blend Fines (BRBF) Newman High Grade Fines (NHGF) MAC Fines(MACF) Jimblebar Fines (JMBF)
Platts would assess these brands timestamped to 5.30pm Singapore/Beijing time on a daily basis.
Platts would take into account the typical specifications of these brands in determining these assessments.
Platts seeks to reflect market practice in its assessments. Given these brands trade against the monthly average of an index, Platts would assess these assessments against the relevant monthly average based on transactional information collected from active market participants. UNDERLYING MONTH: The underlying month reflected in the floating price basis assessments would roll according to standard loading practices in the iron ore spot market.
Therefore, for the four Australia-origin brands the underlying month would roll 22 days from the first day of the following month.
For BRBF the month would roll to reflect M+2 22 days from the first day of M+1. Here are some examples: The four Australia-origin brand assessments would start to reflect a September 2018-related average on August 10.
Meanwhile, for BRBF the assessment would start to reflect an October 2018-related average on August 10.
