Following industry feedback, Platts confirms changes to the lower maximum sulfur level in its low sulfur Mediterranean bunker fuel assessments.
Platts low sulfur Mediterranean bunker fuel assessments will reflect a maximum sulfur content of 1% effective July 1, 2013.
Platts currently reflects low sulfur bunker fuel assessments with a sulfur cap of 1.5% in the Mediterranean.
Platts currently normalizes activity reported of bunker fuel containing lower sulfur levels to reflect a 1.5% maximum in the assessment process.
From July 2010, bunker fuel with a maximum of 1% sulfur became the most merchantable grade of low sulfur bunker fuel traded in Northwest Europe. Since then, most Mediterranean refiners and suppliers have gradually shifted production and supply of low sulfur bunker fuel to reflect a maximum of 1%.
This change is effective for the codes for Gibraltar LS AAVIW00, AARSS00; Algeciras LS AAXCZ00, AAXDA00; Malta LS AARTD00, AARTC00; Piraeus LS AARTF00, AARTE00; Genoa LS AARSR00, AARSQ00.
