Platts to launch 2026 RIN, RVO assessments, effective July 1

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, will launch assessments for 2026-vintage D6, D5, D4 and D3 Renewable Identification Numbers (RINs), effective July 1.

Platts Biofuels methodology guide states Platts begins assessing next-year RINs on the first publishing day of July.

The 2026 RIN assessments will be published under the following lifetime calendar codes:

RD62026 -- Ethanol RIN Cal 2026

RD42026 -- Biodiesel RIN Cal 2026

RD52026 -- Advanced Biofuel RIN Cal 2026

RD32026 -- Cellulosic Biofuel RIN Cal 2026

The assessments will also be published under the following year-ahead rolling codes:

RINCY03 -- Ethanol RIN Cal Yr03

BDRCY03 -- Biodiesel RIN Cal Yr03

ABRCY03 -- Advanced Biofuel RIN Cal Yr03

CBRCY03 -- Cellulosic Biofuel RIN Cal Yr03

Platts will also publish the 2026 Renewable Volume Obligation (RVO) using the lower-bound percentage estimated mandates published by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on June 13, effective July 1, 2025, under the code RVOY026.

The RVO is the aggregated cost of the RIN percentages per gallon of transportation fuel as the US EPA mandated in the Renewable Fuel Standard Program.

The US EPA mandates the use of biofuels, and hence the RVO calculation is subject to change.

Platts may update its RVO formulas at any time when such changes are set forth by the EPA. Platts will inform the market of the changes in the formulas through subscriber notes.

The RVO is a calculation that combines RINs prices and weights them based on federal biofuel blending mandates. The percentages for the 2026 RVO that Platts will assess are as follows:

2026 Lower-bound Renewable Fuel Estimated Percentages

D68.93%
D50.36%
D44.24%
D30.77%

Platts will therefore calculate the 2026 RVO in cents/gal using this formula as stated in Platts methodology:

2026 RVO formula: RVO= 8.93% (D6) + 0.36% (D5) + 4.24% (D4) + 0.77% (D3)

These assessments will appear in the daily Platts Biofuelscan, Weekly Fuel Ethanol Report and the Weekly Biomass-Based Diesel Report.

They will also appear on Platts Biofuels Alert pages PBF 10, 201, 210, 301 and 310.
