Platts discontinues FOB Hampton Roads thermal coal assessment

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, has discontinued its FOB Hampton Roads 6,000 kcal/kg NAR (CUAEA04) and associated assessments, effective June 14, 2024.

This discontinuation is due to declining production and spot trading for this grade exported from the Atlantic East Coast of the US, alongside market feedback. Platts first proposed the discontinuation in a note published on March 18, 2024: https://www.spglobal.com/commodityinsights/en/our-methodology/subscriber-notes/031824-platts-proposes-discontinuation-of-fob-hampton-roads-thermal-coal-assessment.

The FOB Hampton Roads 6,000 kcal/kg NAR (CUAEA04) assessment and inputs appeared in Platts Coal Trader, Platts Coal Trader International, Fixed Page GCN0360 and under the following symbols:

FOB Hampton Roads 6000 kcal/kg NAR: CUAEA04, CUAEA03 (Mavg), CUAEA05 (Qavg)

Thermal Coal FOB CAPP Rail (CSX) 12500 Btu/lb to kcal/kg: CTCAP00

The discontinuation does not impact the US East Coast thermal coal assessments FOB Baltimore 6,000 kcal/kg NAR (CUADA04) and FOB Baltimore 6,900 kcal/kg NAR (CUATB04).
