Platts launches carbon intensity calculations, carbon offset premiums

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, started publishing monthly carbon intensity calculations and daily carbon offset premium assessments for six crude grades and 22 additional crude fields, effective June 15, 2022.

These 22 additional crude fields are added to the list of 104 crude oil fields for which Commodity Insights is publishing field carbon intensity in kilograms of carbon dioxide equivalent per barrel of oil equivalent (KgCO2e/boe); monthly calculations of transportation carbon intensity along one relevant route per crude field in kilograms of carbon dioxide equivalent per barrel (KgCO2e/bbl); and daily offset premium assessments in $/boe and $/bbl respectively using the Platts Carbon Removal Credit (CRC) voluntary Carbon credit assessment.

Platts begins publishing six crude grade upstream CI calculations in kgCO2e/bbl and CI premiums in $/bbl.

The CI of each grade will be calculated by using the volume-weighted average CI for the individual fields based on monthly production for each field.
