Subscriber note: Platts to launch Midwest CBOB assessment, suspend 87 octane

Platts is proposing to launch a US gasoline assessment that reflects the value of 84 octane CBOB in the Midwest/Group 3 market beginning September 16. At the same time, Platts is proposing to discontinue its existing assessment of finished 87 octane gasoline in the Midwest/Group 3 market, with a final assessment to be published on September 13. This change in assessment coverage is being proposed to reflect a trend in supply and trade in the Midwest market away from finished gasoline, toward sub-octane CBOB. The proposed change also reflects planned changes in shipping grades by Magellan Pipeline. The proposed new CBOB assessment would reflect a grade of gasoline also known as "V grade" in pipeline scheduling. The existing 87 octane assessment is also known as "N grade". The new CBOB assessment would reflect Magellan Pipeline specifications, for CBOB at the pipeline injection point in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
