Platts is proposing to launch a new daily spot physical assessment for CFR China soybeans in response to widespread market demand. The daily assessments would launch on July 31, 2018 and would reflect the tradable value of cargoes of Soybeans CFR China, basis North China ports at 1630 Singapore time. The assessment value will be published as premium in cents/bushel over CBOT soybean futures and as a flat price in $/mt using the prevailing CBOT soybeans futures also at 1630 Singapore time. It is proposed that quality specifications would be normalized to standard requirements for imported soybeans at 34.5% protein content and 18.5% oil content. Volume would be normalized to Panamax vessels, with 10% operational tolerance. The assessment will reflect cargoes with arrival between three and four months ahead of the publication date. In accordance with Platts methodology, the assessment would be made using transactional information collected daily, including transactions, bids and offers. In the absence of representative CFR China soybeans price information, Platts may also refer to FOB prices from relevant supply origins using prevailing spot freight rates. Platts is inviting feedback on the proposed new assessments and the specifications through June 26, 2018.
