About Commodity Insights
03 Jun 2024 | 17:19 UTC
Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, will launch a daily Brazil Power forward curve assessment, effective July 1, 2024.
Platts has observed growth in the Brazilian Electricity free market, and with it, interest in transparency around futures prices. The Brazil free power market currently comprises more than 43,400 consumers (ABRACEEL) and 38% of total demand. The share of the free market could potentially grow to 60% by 2030 due to new government regulations allowing lower-voltage consumers to participate (S&P Global Analysts).
The assessments will consider market information reported to Platts and published throughout the day, including firm bids and offers, trades, and indicative values, as well as any other data deemed relevant to the assessment process.
The assessments will represent conventional power delivered in Brazil's Southeast/Central-West subsystem, as defined by the Operador Nacional do Sistema Elétrico, and will be published as a value in Brazilian Real per Megawatt hour ($R/MWh) and US dollars per Megawatt hour ($/MWh).
The assessments will consider data submitted to Platts until 16:00 Houston time and will follow the Platts US publishing schedule. The assessments will reflect electricity for delivery within stated months, as follows:
Southeast/Central-West R$/MWh
M
M+1
M+2
M+3
M+4
M+5
M+6
M+7
M+8
M+9
M+10
M+11
The assessments will roll into the next forward month on the first day of each calendar month. For example, on August 1, 2024, M would roll into August 2024 and M+1 would roll into September (M+1) 2024.
The assessments will be published in Megawatt Daily, Energy Trader, Platts Connect and Alert Pages.
