Following a period of industry consultation and feedback, S&P Global Platts has launched a new Panamax dry bulk freight assessment reflecting the trade route of metallurgical coal from West Coast Canada to East Coast India on June 3, 2016.
This assessment was first proposed by Platts in a subscriber note published on March 8, 2016.
The new assessment reflects spot fixture activity basis loading at West Coast Canada, as Indian steel mills increase their metallurgical coal requirements from the North Pacific region.
The assessment is based on modern Panamax dry bulk tonnage reflecting the Vancouver, West Coast Canada, to Vizag, East Coast India, route for a Panamax vessel carrying a metallurgical coal cargo of 75,000 mt (plus/minus 10%). The assessment is published on a dollar per metric ton basis.
The new assessment can be found in the S&P Global Platts Dry Freight Wire.
