S&P Global Platts has changed the density specification reflected in its West Africa gasoline assessments, effective June 1, 2021, to better align it with prevailing regional import requirements.
The West Africa Gasoline FOB Northwest Europe assessment, and its related freight net-forward West Africa Gasoline CIF West Africa assessment, now reflect barrels with a specific gravity range of 0.75 to 0.78 at 15 degrees Celsius, compared with a maximum density of 0.735 kg/l previously.
This change was first proposed in a subscriber note published March 26: https://www.spglobal.com/platts/en/our-methodology/subscriber-notes/032621-sampp-global-platts-proposes-to-change-west-africa-gasoline-cargo-density-specification
The change will better align the assessments with the prevailing import requirements into West Africa. For instance, Nigeria, the region's largest importer, typically imports gasoline with a specific gravity of 0.75-0.78 at 15 degrees Celsius, Platts understands.
In its Market on Close assessment process, Platts may publish bids, offers and trades for gasoline grades with other specific gravity/density specifications, but these may be normalized for assessment purposes.
The proposed change affects the following assessments:
Assessment Code
West Africa Gasoline FOB Northwest Europe AAKUV00
West Africa Gasoline CIF West Africa AGNWC00
These assessments appear on Platts Global Alert pages 1310 and 1110, Platts European Marketscan, and in the Platts price database under the codes above. Please send any further comments or feedback to Europe_products@spglobal.com and pricegroup@spglobal.com
