Platts to launch MX and toluene CIF-FOB ARA differential price assessments, June 30

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, will start assessing differentials between CIF and FOB ARA prices for mixed xylenes (MX) and toluene, effective June 30.

Platts will assess and database the following differentials:

DifferentialLaycan
MX CIF-FOB ARA differential5-30 days forward
Toluene CIF-FOB ARA differential M1Current month (M1) in line with the usual roll
Toluene CIF-FOB ARA differential M2Next month (M2) in line with the usual roll
Toluene CIF-FOB ARA differential5-30 days forward

This means the Platts FOB ARA price assessments will be decoupled from the CIF ARA assessments, which are currently assessed at parity.

A positive differential would signify a premium of CIF ARA prices over FOB ARA prices, while a negative differential would indicate a discount.

Platts proposed to launch differentials between CIF and FOB ARA on April 28 (opens in a new tab)after an initial proposal to decouple the FOB ARA and CIF ARA prices assessments for MX and toluene, published on Jan 6(opens in a new tab).

The differentials will affect the following assessments:
