Platts proposes to assess CIF-FOB ARA differentials for MX and toluene

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, proposes to start assessing differentials between CIF and FOB Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp prices for mixed xylenes and toluene, effective June 30.

Platts would assess and database the following differentials:

DifferentialLaycan
MX CIF-FOB ARA differential5-30 days forward
Toluene CIF-FOB ARA differential M1Current month (M1)
Toluene CIF-FOB ARA differential M2Next month (M2)
Toluene CIF-FOB ARA differential5-30 days forward

Under the proposal, Platts would decouple the FOB ARA price assessments from the CIF ARA assessments, which are currently assessed at parity.

The positive differential would signify a premium of CIF ARA prices over FOB ARA prices, while the negative would indicate a discount.

Platts seeks further feedback on this proposal, which follows an initial proposal to decouple(opens in a new tab) the FOB ARA and CIF ARA price assessment for MX and toluene, published on Jan. 6.

The proposed changes would affect the following assessments:
