Following a period of market consultation on a proposal to launch CIF Mediterranean thermal coal assessments, first published on May 3, 2019, S&P Global Platts has decided to launch a new assessment and rename the existing CIF Turkey assessment on June 17, 2019.
The renamed assessment will incorporate the existing CIF Turkey coal assessment (CTCMT04) into an enlarged geographical area with a basis port change to Iskenderun from Marmara, Turkey and will reflect volumes of 75,000 mt thermal coal of 6,000 kcal/kg NAR, delivered on Panamax vessels.
Additionally, Platts has decided to launch June 17, 2019 a new CIF Med 45,000 mt 6,000 kcal/kg NAR assessment to reflect thermal coal delivered into the Mediterranean market on Handysize, Handymax and Supramax vessels also basis port Iskenderun.
The weekly assessments will be based on trades, bids and offers and indications to trade, heard in the market from market participants. The CIF Med Panamax assessment will continue the pricing history of the existing CIF Turkey assessment, with a 90-day delivery window. The CIF Med Handy assessment will also have a 90 day delivery window.
A sulfur content normalized to 1%, will be reflected in both assessments.
The assessments will be published weekly in Coal Trader International, Coal Trader and on Global Coal Alert pages 430 and 450 and Market Data category CI with a launch date of June 17, 2019.
Affected codes are: CTCMT04, CTCMT03, CTCMT05, and CTCME04. New codes are: CTCMA04, CTCMA03, CTCMA05, and CTCMB04.
