Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, is proposing to adjust the specifications of its daily and weekly CFR Med region ammonia assessments and also launch a daily CFR North Africa ammonia assessment, effective June 27, 2025.
The specification changes and assessment launch proposed are intended to more clearly capture the market dynamics of the region, recognizing the differences in origin and volume of spot cargoes delivered to Moroccan and Turkish ports.
It is proposed that a daily CFR North Africa ammonia assessment be launched with a basis location of Jorf Lasfar, Morocco.
The specifications of the proposed CFR North Africa assessment and proposed adjustments to the daily and weekly CFR Med Region assessments are detailed below.
Assessment Name: Ammonia CFR North Africa - daily
Quality: Anhydrous ammonia, which is around 82% Nitrogen and is stored and transported as a liquid under pressure at around minus 33 degree Celsius, with no restrictions on carbon intensity
Quantity: Basis 25,000 mt
Basis and location: Spot; Basis port Jorf Lasfar, Morocco
Timing: Product to be delivered one-to-six weeks forward
Frequency: Daily
Appears in: Platts Fertecon Daily
Unit of measurement: $/mt
Timestamp: 16:30 London close, published according to the London publishing calendar
Simultaneously, Platts proposes that the daily CFR Med Region ammonia assessment (FAMMC00) is renamed CFR Turkey, the quantity specification adjusted to 5,000-15,000 mt, and the basis location for the assessment narrowed to Mediterranean sea ports in Turkey.
| Current specifications | Proposed specifications | |

In addition, Platts also proposes to remove the contract element of the established weekly CFR Med Region assessment (FAMRA04), adjust quantity and location specifications, and standardize the relationship between the weekly CFR Med Region ammonia assessment and the aforementioned daily CFR Turkey & CFR North Africa ammonia assessments.
The weekly CFR Med Region ammonia assessment is currently published as a range with a low and high value. Under this proposal, the weekly range would consistently reflect the lowest and highest of the proposed daily CFR Turkey and CFR North Africa ammonia assessments published over the course of the preceding trading week (Friday to Thursday).
