Platts launches weekly cobalt hydroxide CIF China assessment

S&P Global Platts launched a weekly cobalt hydroxide CIF China assessment effective May 6, 2020.

The launch of this assessment comes on the back of consistent and growing market demand for increased pricing information in the global cobalt hydroxide market, cobalt cathode market and the battery metals market as a whole.

The assessment has the following specifications and terms:

QUALITY:

Cobalt content: 30%

Manganese: 2-6%

Magnesium: maximum 6%

Iron: maximum 3%

Moisture: 10%

INCOTERM: CIF China

UNIT: lb

CURRENCY: USD

VOLUME: 50-150 mt of cobalt contained

DELIVERY TIMING: 14-60 days forward

PAYMENT TERMS: Letter of Credit at sight

TIMESTAMP: 1630 Singapore time Thursday

ORIGIN: All origins of cobalt hydroxide meeting these specifications are taken into consideration, other grades of cobalt hydroxide may be normalized back to Platts' base standards

SUSTAINABILITY CRITERIA: Responsibly sourced material, in line with standard industry practice

The new price is published alongside Platts' existing battery metals cobalt assessments on page 8890 of Platts Metals Alert, in Metals Daily and in Platts' price database. The weekly cobalt hydroxide CIF China assessment carries the code BATCH04, with BATCH03 for the monthly average and BATCH05 for the quarterly average. Platts will also publish a $/mt conversion, which carries the code BATCT04, with BATCT03 for the monthly average and BATCT05 for the quarterly average.
