Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, has launched a daily calculated assessment reflecting biodiesel exported from Argentina, on May 5, 2025.
The biodiesel price assessment reflects cargoes meeting specifications established by both Resolution 1283/2006 from Argentina's Energy Secretary and EN 14214 from the European Committee for Standardization.
Platts recognizes that the majority of biodiesel produced in Argentina is soy methyl ester derived from soybean oil, and as such calculates the biodiesel price by considering the Platts daily Argentina FOB Up River soybean oil price assessment (SYOAA00), the Argentina 24.5% export duty on soybean oil, the Argentina 23% export duty on biodiesel, and an assessed premium to account for associated production costs required to produce biodiesel. The assessment is published in USD/mt.
Platts will update export duty values in the formula upon any changes from the Argentine government, as tracked in the Boletín Oficial de la República Argentina, and notify the market of any changes via subscriber notes as required. The next update on export duties is scheduled for June 30, 2025, when the current duties are set to expire.
The price assessment is FOB basis Up River, bulk cargoes for the export market, typically around 30,000 mt.
The calculated assessment follows the Platts Argentina publishing schedule, and appears in the Platts price database under the code AARGA00, in the Biofuelscan report, as well as on Platts Biofuels Alert and Platts Connect.
