S&P Global Platts has begun publishing four new daily container bunker charge assessments, complementing the existing container assessments, from May 3, 2021.
Platts first announced its decision to launch the four assessments in a subscriber note published April 26, 2021: http://plts.co/4jnk30rG6kT
The new assessments reflect the bunker costs for transporting a forty-foot container on the following routes and are expressed in $/FEU.
The new bunker charge assessments are:
Head-haul:
Back-haul:
These assessments are calculated using $/mt bunker prices in the following representative ports, as published by Platts. All assessments reflect the use of 0.5%S and 0.1%S marine fuel.
VLSFO PBC35 and PBC36 (Europe to West Coast Africa) -- Rotterdam, Antwerp, Algeciras, Gibraltar, Las Palmas, Lome.
VLSFO PBC37 and PBC38 (North Asia to East Coast Africa) -- South Korea, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Zhoushan, Singapore, Colombo, Durban.
The bunker charge round voyage weighting allocation, vessel speed and consumption used in the bunker charge calculations are arrived at through market survey and reflect market practice.
The voyage durations are also arrived at through market survey and are based on a vessel proceeding on a round voyage basis to ports in geographical rotation within the above ranges.
All assessments include a sea margin of 5%. PBC35 and PBC36 -- Europe to West Coast Africa range PBC37 and PBC38 -- North Asia to East Coast Africa range.
The above variables used in calculating bunker charge assessments will be updated periodically to reflect market practice and new regulations.
The new assessments are published in Platts Dry Freight Wire; on Platts Global Bunkers Alert pages PGB3960 and PGB3961, and Platts Shipping Alert pages SHP0520 and SHP0521; and in the Platts price database under the codes above.
