Platts uses same-day LME data in China copper cathode all-in calculations, changes publishing schedule

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, has started using London Metal Exchange (LME) prices from the same day to calculate its CIF China copper cathode fixed price equivalent (all-in) prices, effective May 2.

The all-in prices previously added premiums or discounts assessed by Platts to underlying LME settlements from the previous day or the latest available value. The change to using same-day LME prices ensures that the all-in calculations reflect the most current market values.

Platts has also revised its publishing schedule for China copper all-ins, moving from the Singapore holiday calendar to a schedule that follows Singapore and UK calendars. Under this change, the all-in calculations are published on days that are working days in both Singapore and the UK.

The daily Platts Copper Spot Premium CIF China (MMAMK00), used in the calculation of the all-in prices, continues to be published based on the Singapore holiday calendar.

The monthly averages of the all-in prices will be calculated based only on the days when the all-in values are published.

Platts initially proposed the changes in a published subscriber note (opens in a new tab)on March 17. Following market feedback, Platts communicated its decision to effect the changes (opens in a new tab)on April 4.

Platts CIF China copper assessments are published on pages MTL0106, PMA0106, MTL0419 and PMA0419 of the Platts Nonferrous Metals Alert, Platts Metals Daily, and in the Platts price database.
