S&P Global Platts to continue Silicon 553 grade FOB China assessment

Following additional, significant, industry feedback, S&P Global Platts has decided not to discontinue its weekly non-ferrous assessment of Silicon 553 grade FOB China (MMAJF00), originally planned to be discontinued on May 1, 2019.

As a result of this decision, Platts will also continue to publish the monthly averages of Silicon 553 grade (MMAJF03). These are auto calculated prices based on the weekly assessments for these metals. Feedback received was that several market participants are currently using the assessment as a Benchmark in their contracts. S&P Global Platts will increase its market engagement with Silicon market participants to overcome the recently observed changes to market liquidity. The decision from February 8 to discontinue Magnesium 99.8% FOB China (AAVSK00) and magnesium diecast alloy FOB China (MMDCH04) on May 1, 2019 will remain unaffected by this decision.
