Following industry consultation, S&P Global Platts has decided to discontinue its daily European emissions price assessments of EU Allowances and Certified Emission Reductions on May 2, 2017. The last day of assessment is April 28, 2017.
The decision reflects evolving market dynamics and increased transparency of European emissions market pricing information. Platts will re-focus its European emissions coverage on carbon market news, data analysis and other market-relevant content.
Platts European emissions price assessments will be discontinued in European Power Daily, on European Power Alert pages EP390, EP391 and EP481, on Global Coal Alert pages GC920 and GC922, and in Platts Market Data category EU.
Platts will continue to publish daily third party European emissions prices and trading volume data from the exchanges, ICE Futures Europe, European Energy Exchange and NASDAQ OMX.
Platts will transfer all European emissions market data from Platts Market Data category ET to EU, also in May 2017.
The symbols to be discontinued are: EUAs expiring in December 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020: EADSP17, EADSP18, EADSP19, EADSP20 CERs expiring in December 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020: CERDE17, CERDE18, CERDE19, CERDE20 EUA monthly rolling averages: EAMSI17, EAMSI18, EAMSI19, EAMSI20 EUA monthly averages: EADS317, EADS318, EADS319, EADS320 CER monthly rolling averages: CERRA17, CERRA18, CERRA19, CERRA20
Following the discontinuation, Platts will rename the symbols listed below and populate this series with third party exchange settlement data from the European Energy Exchange (EEX): EUAs: EADLP00 (nearest December), EADLP11 (nearest December plus 1), EADLP22 (nearest December plus 2) CERs: CERLE00 (nearest December), CERLE11 (nearest December plus 1), CERLE22 (nearest December plus 2)
In light of this decision, Platts has reviewed the use of emissions pricing data in its European clean spark and clean dark spread calculations and fuel switching indicators and will replace Platts OTC emissions assessments with the daily EUA futures settlement data from EEX, effective May 2.
