Platts clarifies unit of measurement for global caustic soda assessments

S&P Global Platts is clarifying that the unit of measurement for its global caustic soda spot price assessments is dry metric tons, except where short metric ton is stated for US assessments.

Platts is updating its code descriptions and specification guides to reflect $/dmt and CNY/dmt, in line with the dmt unit of measurement specified for the standard cargo size.

Indications in liquid metric tons (lmt) are taken into consideration and normalized to dry metric tons on the basis that the caustic soda content of 1,000 lmt is equal to that of 500 dmt, unless otherwise stated.

The following codes will be updated for the Platts caustic soda price assessments in Solventswire, Metals Daily, on the Platts Petrochemical Alert pages 243, 380, 391 and 534, and in the Platts price database:
