Platts would like to clarify that its monoethylene glycol China domestic and purified terephthalic acid China domestic assessments have been reflecting parcel sizes of 500-1,000 mt.
This differs from what is stated in the Platts Asia-Pacific Petrochemicals specifications guide: 50-100 mt parcels for the MEG China domestic assessment and 100-500 mt parcels for the PTA China domestic assessment. Platts first began assessing the MEG China domestic and PTA China domestic markets in April 2008.
Platts understands that the bulk of spot market liquidity in the domestic Chinese MEG and PTA markets currently falls within the assessed volume range of 500-1,000 mt. As such, Platts intends to continue assessing these volume ranges, and will update the specifications guide to reflect this accordingly.
The affected assessments are:
MEG China domestic (AAWJB00)
MEG China domestic weekly average (AAWJB04)
MEG China domestic monthly average (AAWJB03)
PTA China domestic (AAWJA00)
PTA China domestic weekly average (AAWJA04)
PTA China domestic monthly average (AAWJA03)
The affected assessments are published in the Platts price database under the codes above. The MEG assessments are also published on Platts Petrochemical Alert pages 735 and 306, and in the Olefinscan and the Asian Petrochemicalscan, while the PTA prices are also published on Platts Petrochemical Alert pages 737 and 179, and in the Asian Petrochemicalscan.
