Platts launches daily uranium UF6 assessment

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, has launched a daily uranium hexafluoride, or UF6, spot price assessment, beginning April 5, 2024.

The new assessment comes as market participants have sought greater transparency of spot UF6 pricing following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, as some participants have moved away from Russia as a supplier.

The assessment is in dollars per kilogram of uranium content, with a minimum lot size of 25,000 kgU. Platts is assessing the value of UF6 located at any US enrichment plant per month for the current month and the following two calendar months.

The assessment reflects a 1 pm US Eastern timestamp and follows the US publication schedule.

Any information with differing location, volumes or terms may be considered for assessment purposes, subject to normalization.

Natural UF6, the second industrial step of processing uranium into nuclear reactor fuel, results from the chemical conversion of uranium into a gas form that is used as feed for uranium enrichment plants.

Platts is surveying the market to inform spot UF6 prices and consider adjacent markets such as U3O8 prices and conversion costs for U3O8 to UF6.

Pricing information reflected in the final assessments includes, but is not limited to, firm bids, offers and trades as well as indicative values from market participants.

Platts is assessing the spot UF6 price for three calendar months: current month (AURAA00), second month (AURAB00) and third month (AURAC00).

Platts is also publishing an average UF6 price at the end of every calendar month (AURAA03) and a cumulative monthly average UF6 price every day (AURAD00).

The prices are published on fixed pages PEA0308 and PEP0308 as well as weekly in Platts Nuclear Fuel and the Nuclear Fuel Uranium Pricing Supplement.
