Platts to launch an FOB Netherlands soybean meal assessment from May 1

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, will launch a new daily price assessment for soybean meal FOB Netherlands, effective May 1.

The Netherlands represents a significant trading hub for soybean meal in the EU, itself home to some of the region's largest producers of animal feed.

Soybean meal is a key component of feed for the poultry, pork, and beef sectors, for which Platts launched coverage in 2024. Details of this can be found here(opens in a new tab).

The launch of the new price assessment was first proposed on March 12, in a subscriber note available here(opens in a new tab).

Upon reviewing market feedback received during the proposal phase, Platts will change the quality to 46% protein content instead of 48% protein content originally proposed.

The specifications of the new price assessment are as follows:

  • Basis and location: FOB Rotterdam/Amsterdam
  • Quality: Min 46% protein content, Moisture 13.5% max, Fiber 7% max
  • Quantity: Min 1,000 mt – Max 3,000mt
  • Timing: Loading 30 to 45 days from the date of publication
  • Payment terms: Cash against documents

The new soybean meal price assessments will be published in euros per metric ton (Eur/mt), with a value also published in US dollars per metric ton ($/mt) converted using the relevant Eur/$ exchange rate(AAFCW00). A monthly average will also be published for both soybean meal assessments.

The assessments will consider market information reported to Platts, published as heards throughout the day, including firm bids and offers, trades, indicative values, and any other data deemed relevant to the assessment process.

The daily assessments will reflect a 4:30 pm London timestamp and follow the Platts London publishing schedule.
