S&P Global Platts has begun publishing two new daily container bunker charge assessments from April 1, 2021, complementing existing container assessments.
These new assessments reflect the bunker costs for transporting a 40-foot container on the routes below, and are expressed in $/FEU. The new bunker charge assessments are:
Head-haul
Route From To Symbol
PBC33 East Coast South America US Gulf Coast PBC3300
Back-haul
Route From To Symbol
PBC34 US Gulf Coast East Coast South America PBC3400
The assessments reflect the use of 0.5% sulfur and 0.1% sulfur marine fuel, and are calculated using the $/mt bunker fuel prices in representative ports, published by Platts.
VLSFO PBC33 and PBC34 -- Buenos Aires, Santos, Cartagena, Houston, New Orleans.
LSMGO PBC33 and PBC34 -- Buenos Aires, Santos, Cartagena, Houston, New Orleans.
The bunker charge round voyage weighting allocation, ship speed and consumption used in the bunker charge calculations have been arrived at through market survey and reflect market practice. All assessments include a sea margin of 5%. The voyage durations have been arrived at through market survey for ships proceeding on a round-voyage basis to ports in geographical rotation within the below range.
PBC33 and PBC34 -- East Coast South America US Gulf Coast range
The above variables used in calculating bunker charge assessments will be regularly updated to reflect market practice and new regulations.
The assessments are published in Platts Dry Freight Wire, on Platts Global Bunkers Alert page PGB3960, and Platts Shipping Alert page SHP0520, and in the Platts pricing database under the codes above.
