Merchantability standards for oil assessments

Platts oil assessments reflect material meeting several specifications as detailed in its published methodology, including a requirement for merchantability.

Products or materials may be considered non-merchantable for a variety of reasons, including those situations when the material contains blends that are not normally and customarily associated with the qualities of the product.

For instance, fuel oil containing biodiesel is considered outside of the normal qualities considered in Platts assessment process.
