S&P Global Platts proposes to change West Africa gasoline cargo density specification

S&P Global Platts proposes to change the density specification reflected in its West Africa gasoline assessments, effective June 1, 2021, to better align it with prevailing regional import requirements.

Platts is proposing that its West Africa Gasoline FOB Northwest Europe assessment and its related freight net-forward West Africa Gasoline CIF West Africa assessment reflect barrels with a specific gravity range of 0.75 to 0.78 at 15 degrees Celsius from June 1, compared with a maximum density of 0.735 kg/l currently.

The proposed change would better align the assessments with the prevailing import requirements into West Africa. For instance, Nigeria, the region's largest importer, typically imports gasoline with a specific gravity of 0.75 -0.78 at 15 degrees Celsius, Platts understands.

In its Market on Close assessment process, Platts may publish bids, offers and trades for gasoline grades with other specific gravity/density specifications, but these may be normalized for assessment purposes.
