S&P Global Platts proposes to launch six new daily container bunker charge assessments, as well as six net box rate assessments, excluding bunker charges, complementing Platts existing container assessments, from May 1, 2018.
The new assessments would cover the following container routes that are already assessed by Platts:
Head-Haul
Route From To Symbol PBR1 North Asia North Continent PBR0100 PBR11 North Asia UK PBR1100 PBR13 North Asia West Coast North America PBR1300
Back-Haul
PBR2 North Continent North Asia PBR0200 PBR12 UK North Asia PBR1200 PBR14 West Coast North America North Asia PBR1400
The bunker charge assessments would reflect the bunker costs for transporting a forty-foot container on the above routes and would be expressed in $/FEU. These assessments would be calculated using $/mt bunker prices in representative ports, published by Platts.
The variables used in calculating bunker charge assessments, including vessel size, fuel consumption, voyage duration and cargo allocation percentages would be based on current market practice and updated regularly.
The new net box rate assessments would be calculated by deducting the daily values of bunker charge assessments from the box rate assessments for the above routes and would also be on a $/FEU basis.
These prices would be published in Platts Dry Freight Wire and Platts Global Alert service on the fixed page PGA 3950 and in the Platts database.
