Following industry feedback and in response to market changes, S&P Global Platts proposes to amend the description of two container freight assessments, effective May 1, 2018.
They are: Route From To Symbol PBR9 UK Continent East Coast North America PBR0900 PBR10 East Coast North America UK Continent PBR1000
These assessments are published in Platts Dry Freight Wire, Platts Global Alert service on fixed page PGA 3950 and in the Platts database under the symbols listed above.
Platts understands that these routes are typically priced based on the trade demand to and from the North Continent region.
The container rates for the UK load or discharge are then based off the North Continent rates and fluctuate dependent on UK market dynamics.
Therefore Platts proposes removing the UK element from its assessment of PBR9 and PBR10 and to focus on North Continent only.
This would be reflected in the revised assessments as follows: PBR9 would be changed from "UK Continent to East Coast North America" to "North Continent to East Coast North America" and PBR10 from "East Coast North America to UK Continent" to "East Coast North America to North Continent".
The price assessment process, codes and publication schedule would remain the same. Please send any comments or questions by April 2, 2018 to shipping@platts.com and pricegroup@platts.com.
