Following industry feedback, S&P Global Platts proposes to discontinue its UK Continent to/from Mediterranean container freight assessments, effective May 1, 2018.
Platts understands that these container routes lack spot rate volatility and are not considered key for most container market participants.
The affected assessments are: Route From To Symbol PBR7 UK Continent Mediterranean PBR0700 PBR8 Mediterranean UK Continent PBR0800
These assessments are published in Platts Dry Freight Wire, Platts Global Alert service on fixed page PGA 3950 and in the Platts database under the symbols listed above.
Following the discontinuation, the Platts Container Index from May 1, 2018 would no longer include PBR7 or PBR8 and would be based upon a weighted average of the remaining 12 spot container routes that Platts assesses.
The percentages for the Platts Container Index have been derived from Platts cFlow analysis, based on AIS data tracking ship movements between regions.
The percentages in the weighted average undergo regular revisions.
