Platts proposes to launch calculated biodiesel FOB Argentina price, May 5

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, proposes to launch a daily calculated assessment reflecting the value of biodiesel exported from Argentina, effective May 5, 2025.

The proposed biodiesel price assessment would reflect cargoes meeting specifications established by both Resolution 1283/2006 from Argentina's Energy Secretary and EN 14214 from the European Committee for Standardization.

Platts recognizes that the majority of biodiesel produced in Argentina is soy methyl ester derived from soybean oil, and as such would calculate the biodiesel price by considering its daily Argentina FOB Up River soybean oil price assessment (SYOAA00), the 24.5% export duty on soybean oil, the 23% export duty on biodiesel, and a premium to account for associated production costs required to produce biodiesel. The value would be published in US dollars per metric ton.

Platts would update export duty values in the formula upon any changes from the Argentine government, as tracked in the Boletín Oficial de la República Argentina, and notify the market of any changes via subscriber notes as required. The next update on export duties is scheduled for June 30, 2025, when the current duties are set to expire.

The proposed price would reflect FOB basis Up River, reflecting bulk cargoes for the export market.

The calculated assessment would follow the Platts Argentina publishing schedule.

Platts invites feedback on all aspects of this proposal, including the typical specifications of Argentine biodiesel exports.
