SUBSCRIBER NOTE: Platts to add new Illinois Basin coal assessment

Following a period of industry feedback, Platts will launch a weekly price assessment for Illinois Basin thermal coal with a heat value of 11,500 Btu/lb and sulfur dioxide content of 5 lbs/MMBtu, effective April 4.

The assessment will reflect the price in the US physical market for three forward quarters and one forward calendar year. The price will be reported in US dollars/st.

Weekly US assessments for the physical coal market are published in the Weekly Price Survey in the Friday edition of Platts Coal Trader. The survey closes at 2 pm ET on the final trading day of the week.
