March 18, 2024
Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, will launch a new set of Renewable Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) Derived Hydrogen prices for Spain, France, Netherlands, and Germany, effective March 18.
In the absence of market-based information Platts will utilize a model-based cost of production plus a premium, to reflect market value. However, market information such as bids, offers, trades and indications will take precedence for assessments.
Incorporating Power Purchase Agreements will more closely align the prices listed below with European Union regulations references to power sources used in the production of low carbon hydrogen as set out in the EU Delegated Act. Renewable-derived hydrogen is often referred to as "green" hydrogen.
The new assessments will be published in following units: Eur/kg, Eur/kWh, US$/kg and US$/MMBtu. They will appear on Platts Connect and Platts Hydrogen Daily, complementing Platts existing suite of cost valuations. Please refer to the hydrogen methodology guide for more details on existing hydrogen assessments: Methodology and Specifications Guide Global Hydrogen and Ammonia | S&P Global Commodity Insights (spglobal.com)
Platts will launch these assessments for hydrogen produced from alkaline electrolysis, incorporating the cost of renewable PPAs, against the following symbols:
| Units | ||||
| Country | Eur/kg | $/kg | Eur/kWh | $/MMBtu |
| Spain alkaline | SARHE00 | SARDH00 | SAPDH00 | SARPD00 |
