S&P Global Platts proposes to change the name and broaden the specifications of its CIF Turkey 6,000 kcal/kg NAR weekly assessment.
Platts is seeking feedback on a proposal to change the assessment in May 2019.
In order to capture more liquidity in the growing Turkey and Egyptian thermal coal markets and take into account the variance in sulfur between these two markets, Platts is proposing the following changes:
* Increase the limit on sulfur content to 3.3% from existing 0.8%-0.9% and normalize assessments to 2% sulfur
* Broaden the heat range to allow coals with a calorific value of 5,500-6,900 kcal/kg NAR and normalize assessments at 6,000 kcal/kg NAR
* Broaden the acceptable vessel sizes to include both Panamax and Supramax-sized vessels
* Change the port basis to Iskenderun, Turkey and Alexandria, Egypt from the existing Turkish port of Marmara
The current symbol for CIF Turkey (CTCM04) would be renamed as CIF East Mediterranean.
This assessment would be published weekly in Coal Trader International, on Global Coal Alert page 510 and Market Data category CI.
Platts invites comments and questions by April 5, 2019 to coal@spglobal.com with copy to pricegroup@spglobal.com.
