Platts has corrected its UK month-ahead Coal Switching Price Indicator (CSPI) data for March 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6, 2015. Platts UK CSPI is the theoretical threshold at which UK coal-fired power generation becomes more competitive than gas-fired power, allowing for the cost of fuel, carbon emissions and the UK government's Carbon Price Support levy. From March 2 to 6, the formula for month-ahead April was applying an incorrect CPS levy of GBP9.55/mt. This has now been amended to GBP18.08/mt, in line with the Treasury's confirmed CPS rate for April 1, 2015 to March 31, 2016. Affected UK CSPI 50% efficient data for March 2-6 will be republished in the March 10 editions of European Gas Daily and European Power Daily dated March 11. Corrected CSPI data at 45% -- assuming UK gas plant operating at 45% efficiency -- is available through Platts Market Data. Market Data category EM has been updated.
