Platts proposes to launch a new Supramax dry bulk freight assessment reflecting the growing trade route for limestone from the Persian Gulf to East Coast India, effective June 1, 2016. Growth in Indian steel production has stimulated increased demand for limestone for the country's steel mills.
The new assessment would reflect the growing spot fixture activity basis loading at Mina Saqr, UAE, as Indian limestone consumers increase their requirements from the Persian Gulf.
The assessment would be based on modern Supramax dry bulk tonnage reflecting the route from Mina Saqr, UAE, to Paradip, East Coast India, for a Supramax vessel carrying a limestone cargo of 50,000 mt (plus/minus 10%). The assessment would also include freight differentials to loading in Salalah, Oman, and discharging in Chennai, East Coast India. The assessment would be published on a $/mt basis.
