SUBSCRIBER NOTE: Platts proposes to change Capesize dry bulk cargo size

Platts proposes to change the cargo sizes assessed for Capesize dry freight rates on the following routes effective March 10, 2015:

1. Port Hedland, Northwest Australia tom Qingdao, North China from 160,000 mt to 170,000 mt (Platts code: IOFAC00, Page Number: PMA1106) 2. Saldanha Bay, South Africa to Qingdao, North China from 160,000 mt to 170,000 mt (Platts code: IOFSA00, Page Number: PMA1106) 3. Hampton Roads, US East Coast to Qingdao, North China from 160,000 mt to 140,000 mt (Platts code: CIVAC00, Page Number: GCA952)

The proposed changes are a result of industry feedback and in response to market changes where charterers are moving cargoes loaded out of Port Hedland and Saldanha Bay basis 170,000 mt (plus/minus 10%), while Hampton Roads loading is basis 140,000 mt (plus/minus 10%) due to the maximum available draft of 16 meters. Platts would normalize any other cargo size on these routes to 170,000 mt and 140,000 mt basis.
