SUBSCRIBER NOTE: Platts discontinued Pinnacle US HCC brand assessments

S&P Global Platts has discontinued publication of the weekly assessment and monthly average Pinnacle low-vol hard coking coal brand assessments effective March 1, 2019, following industry feedback since December 11, 2018. The last assessment was published February 22, 2019.

The decision follows the closure by Mission Coal Company of the West Virginia-based Pinnacle mine and expected conclusion of sales for remaining coals.

Namely the assessments and codes discontinued are:

Met Coal Pinnacle FOB USEC $/mt, weekly assessment, code: MCAPG04 Met Coal Pinnacle FOB USEC $/mt, monthly assessment, code: MCAPG03

The assessment was published in the US Metallurgical Coal Relativities table, published on page 9 of the Steel Markets Daily publication, page 8 of Coal Trader International publication, and page 6 of Coal Trader publication. These assessments also ceased to be published on the Platts Metals Alert Pages 1065 and 1066.

Platts will continue to publish assessments for the remaining brands, and their relative spread to Platts US Low Vol HCC assessments, basis FOB Hampton Roads.
