Platts to remove ONEOK WesTex Transmission from Waha natural gas index

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, will no longer include ONEOK WesTex Transmission (OWT) in the Waha daily (IGBAD00) and monthly (IGBAD03) natural gas index methodology.

The exclusion of OWT trades from the Waha daily index will take effect for next-day trading on March 31 for delivery April 1.

For the monthly index, the changes will take effect for month-ahead trades during April bidweek (March 25-27) for delivery April 1-30.

Platts started a formal review of its Waha natural gas index methodology by inviting feedback to a consultation on Aug. 21, 2024.

As a result of significant market feedback and engagement, Platts published Feb. 11 a proposal to exclude OWT.

The decision to remove OWT was based on analysis that it consistently trades differently to other locations mapped to the Waha index and was reflected in significant market feedback that it should be removed to maintain the integrity of the Waha index.
